The Tele Times Daily, Date 5-5-66
SHINGAPÜR: 5th of May 2066 is a significant date in Chinese history, occurring only once every century. To most it is only a date on the calendar, but to many elderly Chinese women today, it is an auspicious date believed to be in commemoration of the long-defunct Daiwuanese boyband 6655, members of which have all died.
As a result, the Registry of Marriages saw an all-time highest record number of marriages solemnised on this date.
Many elderly Chinese women believe that the number 5566 represents their once favorite boyband 6655 and have chosen this date for their sons and daughters to wed.
"6655 must have heard our long-lost youthful wishes from above. I regret that I cannot undergo such a joyous ceremony today at this age, but I truly believe 6655 will grant my daughter and son-in-law plentiful luck and blessings if they are wedded today. I will definitely play 6655's music during the ceremony to bring them bliss and happiness" said Madam Xiao Ger Ger.
Mrs ~*aLlDaWaYz^rAwKx^&^JiA^yOuZ*~ (spelling is accurate at point of interview) said: "I have always revered 6655 as my idols. I hung their posters in my bedroom walls and played their music all night as lullabies when I was still an immatured crazy gushing teeny-bopper fangirl decades ago. I still have their signed CD albums kept in the biscuit tin under my bed. When I met them live over 60 years ago, I literally screamed my heart out and fainted when they smiled at me and signed my CDs. All these have been very memorable to me and I would like very much for my son to marry on this auspicious date. It's my final wish before I die and join 6655 above."
In addition to marriage, it also appears to be a good date for childbirths. Hospitals like the ~*^*KKzx! Fangirlz! Hospital!*^*~ have reported a numerically coincidental 66.55% increase in the number of childbirths compared to normal days.
Mrs Beddiez Rox Koolz Gerx said in joyful tears: "I planned 2 years ahead for my grandchild to be born on this date. I secretly masterminded a plan to stop my daughter from visiting her husband 18 months ago and only allowed them to meet again just 9 months back! Now that I can finally reap the fruits of my own labour, what more could a grandmother ask for?"
Amidst the date craze, 5th of May 2006 may not be popular for everyone.
Mr Aaron Midon said: "The date's no big deal to me dude. I'd say it matters only to those who think it matters. Your kids are marrying on the 5th of May 2066, so freakin' what? I married on 6th of June 2006. So check that out, yeah! So what am I doing on the 5 of 5 of 66? Let's see... I'll be joining the ol' folks downstairs in the void deck for our daily jam session later. Damn, almost forgot my walkin' stick! Thanks for reminding, pal. And oh by the way, to all you 6655 worshippers out there, it's spelt R-O-C-K. Maybe you didn't use the spell-check."
The Tele Times Daily, Date 5-?-??
SHINGAPÜR: In what is widely regarded as a monumental move against the SMS voting system adopted by the ever growing number of commercially-driven music talent competitions today, thousands of protesters have gathered outside the CarrotCake Broadcast Centre to demand refunds for what they claim to be 'wasted votes' on participants who have been eliminated from such competitions. Dissatisfied at the perceived half-hearted response from media authorities, what began as a peaceful march of protest only days ago has since escalated into a violent face-off between the huge enraged mob of cellphone-armed protesters and media personnel, resulting in tearshed, messed hairs, ripped clothes and chipped nails. It is believed that several cellphones have been used as hand-held projectiles for smashing vehicle windscreens and building windows. The thousand-strong mob swarmed in within minutes of tearing down the front gate and took control of the compound, prompting industry leaders to draw up urgent reassessments of the voting system.
In the meantime, police have sealed off all access to CarrotCake Broadcast Centre. So far, only one arrest of a young man in his late teens has been made in the area but is from an unconnected and ongoing case of the CarrotCake Celebrity Changing Room Peeping Tom. Reliable sources have cited negotiations are currently under way between protest leaders, police representatives and media authorities within the compound but a conclusion has yet to be drawn.
Police spokesman Sgt Bo Bian said: The situation is presently contained and stable. We have called in emergency hairstylists, manicurists, cellphone and fashion retailers to treat those with the appropriate needs. For parents who are aware their children are among these protesters, kindly contact your children and tell them to go home.
Leading media entertainment critic Pui Chao Nua said: The media has to understand and heed the voice of the public. If people feel that the voting system is too overbearing and a refund is justified, the media should have taken the appropriate steps and looked into the matter much earlier. It is no strange fact that social responsibility and business interests will often come into clashes, and this situation will serve as a classic reminder in the history of ShingapÜr that every individual music lover out there has a voice and needs to be heard - music is not just about the money and if the media industry can't churn out the quality of music the way music lovers churn out their money, this fragile relationship will not sustain for long.
Housewife Mary Richie Tan commented: I don't see any problem with spending just 60 cents to vote for your favourite participant. I have 3 daughters and they never fail to catch the program on TV. After all it's only 60 cents, not 6 dollars. We all should learn to be more giving. If these protesters want their 60 cents back, they're better off earning 6 dollars working at a fast food outlet for an hour.
All media authorities have declined to comment.

SHINGAPÜR: Following a 3-day protest by thousands of young music lovers that ultimately led to the takeover of the CarrotCake Broadcast Centre yesterday, forcing an immediate reassessment of the voting system by media authorities in the now rampant music talent competition programs, negotiations have ended in favor of music lovers demanding refunds for their votes on ousted participants.
Media representatives have announced plans to introduce the 'Refund System' which is expected to take effect in competitions next season. With the system in place, voters can now send out an SMS with the word 'REFUND' to qualify for a full refund of the amount spent on each vote. However, industry experts say the system will be costly to set up and additional manpower will be required to maintain it. As such, each SMS will be priced tentatively at 80 cents to cover operations cost.
With the voting system countered, the CarrotCake protesters have begun to disperse peacefully. All protesters detained by the police have been let off with a REFUND Goodie Bag.
