At 69, Gary Gygax, one of the fathers of tabletop role-playing game, the guy who co-created Dungeons & Dragons (together with Dave Arneson), and introduced a vast fantasy world of wizards and elves into millions of homes around the world, has passed away on 4 March 2008.
Without him, we would probably not have known D&D, and get to slay goblins and orcs, or cast Magic Missile or Fireball with the roll of a die.
While I've never played a full tabletop RPG before, all the dice rolling and stats keeping, and all the treasure hunting and monster bashing as we sat in a little group lost in our little make-believe world were simply fun and memorable.
Gygax saw graphics of a computer as dulling the imagination and never fully approved of computer RPGs. But I have him to thank for creating D&D which has continued to fuel my fascination with medieval fantasy and be a powerful source of inspiration for me till today. Without it, I might not have gone into CRPGs or toy-collecting at all.
I've been wanting to do this for the longest time, and now I've done it! John J. Rambo M65 Jacket Version from the first Rambo film First Blood is the newest Rambo figure by Hot Toys and I acquired him more recently in Oct 07.
The movie theme song "It's a Long Road" by Dan Hill fits well with our war veteran in this get-up and his battle-weary look. Throw in a long road and we're good to go.
So... time to stop talkin and start walkin cause Rambo's hittin the long road in this one. Music please!
